According to national building code (sp: 7-1983) building are classified based on occupancy as following.

  • industrial building - group - G

    classification of building difination:-

    Residential building

  • :-

    Residential building


    These shall include any building in which sleeping accomadation is provide for normal residential purpose with or without coocking or dining or both facilities except any building classification under group c.

    Type of residential building:-

    1. A-1 loading or rooming house.
    2. A-2 one or two family private dewelling.
    3. A-3 dormitories.
    4. A-4 appartments house (flats).
    5. A-5 hotels.

    These all includes any buildings used for school college or dry-care purpose involving assembly for instruction education or recreation  and which is not covered by group ''D".








    Institutional building:-group


    institutional building.
    These  shall include any building or part thereat which is used for purpose such as medical or other treatmentor care of person suffering from physical or mental illness disease or infirmity care of infant convelecent or aged person and for penal or correctional defination in which the liberts of the inments is ristricted . Institutional building s ordinarily provides sleeping accommodation for the occupants.

    There are divided following:-
    1. c-1 hospital and santorial
    2. c-2 custodial institute
    3. c-3 panel and mental institute.


    Asesembly building:- group d


    Assembly building

    These shall include any building or part of a building whre group of people congregate or gather for amusment , recreation , social , religious , patrotic , civil , travel and similar purpos. Eg:- theater , motion picture , house , assmbly halls, auditorium , exhibition hall , museum etc.

    Types of thre:-

    1. D - 1 building having theatrical stages and fixed seat for over 1000 person.
    2. D-2 building having theatrical stages and fixed seats for less than 1000 person.
    4. D-3 building without stages having accomadation for 300 or more persons but no permanent seating arrengement .
    4. D-4 building without stages having accommodation for less than 300 person.
    5. d-5 all other structures designed for assembly of people not covered by subdivision D-1 to D-4.


    Business building:- Group E


    buisiness building

    These shall include any building or part of a building which is used for transaction of business (other than that covered by group f and part of building covered by 3.1.1). For keeping of accounts and records and similar purpose professional establishment service , facilities etc. City halls town halls and court housr and librerirs shall be classified in this groups so for as the principle function at there is transaction of public buisiness  and keping of books and records.
       Thre are types :-

    1.E-1 offices , banks , proffesional established ,like office of architects , engineers , doctors , lawyers etc.
    2. E-2 laborties , reaserch established and test house.
    3. E-3 computers installations.

    Marcantile building Group:-G


    marcantile building
    These include any building or part at a building which is used as shops , stores market for display and sale of marchandise either wholesale or retail.
    office , storage and service facilities incidental to the sale of marchandise and located in the same building should be included under this group.
    minor merchandising operation in buildings primarily meant for other uses should be covered by group under which the predominate occupancy is classified.

    industrial building



    These include any building or part of a building or stucture in which product or materials of all kinds and properties are fabricated assembly or processed , for example assembly plants , laboratories cleaning plants, power plants, pumping stations, smoke house , gas plants , refineries , dairies and saw mills.

    These include any building or part of a building used primorily for the storage or shaletring (include service processing or repaird incidental to storage) of goods wares or merchandise (exept those that involve highly combustible or explosive products or materials.) vehicles or animals for example:- ware houses , cold storage , fright depots , transit sheds , store houses hangers),grain elevators barn and stables.




    hazardous building Group:-I

    hazardous building
     These include any building or part of a building which is used for the storage hang manufactur or processing of highly combstible or explossive materials or products which are liable to burn with exreme rapidity and / or which produce poisonous fumes or explosions for storage handing manufacturing or processing which invlove highly corrosive , toxic or noxious alkalies , acids or other liquids or chamical producing flames fumes and explossive ,                poisonous , irritant or corrosive gasses and for the storage handing or proccessing of any material producing explosive of any material producing explossive mixture of dust or which result in division of matter into fine particals subject to buildings in this class are those building which are used for:-(a). storage underpressure of more than 0.1 N /mm  and in quantities exceeding 70 M3  of  acetylene , hydrogen, illumination and natural gas, ammonia cloride , phosgane ,sulphur dioxide , carbon , dioxide methyle oxide and all gasses subject to explosion fume or toxic hazards.

    (b) strong and handling of hazardous and highly flammable liquids.

    (c).storage and handling of hazardous and highly flamable or exoplossive materials other liquids.

    (d). manufactured of artificial flowers synthetic leather , ammunation explossives and fireworks.
