Surveying is the determining relative position of points on the surface of the earth and to prepare a map or plan.
The main purpos of surveying to prepare map or plan
scale:- if the scale is very small then reprensantation is called map and it the scale is big the reprensentation is called plan.That is map made for larger area. EG:- map of india , plan of building

primary division of survey
The earth is an oblate spheroid of revolution ,the length of its polar axis (12,713,800) meters being somewhat less than that of its equatorial axis (12,756,750) meters.thus the polar axis is shorter than the equatorial axis by 42.95 kilometers . relative to the diameter of the earth this is less than 0.34 percent . if we neglect the irregularities of earth , the surface of the imaginary spheroid is a curved surface, every element of which is normal to the plumb line. the intersection of such a suraface with a plane psssing through the earth will from a line continuous around the earth. the portion of such a line known as level line ans the ciercle defined by the intersection is known as great circle .The distance between two points .

plane surveying:- Is that type of surveying in which the mean surface of earth is considred as a plane and the spheroidal shape is neglected . all triangles formed by survey line are considred plane triangles. the level line is considered as straight and all plumb lines are considred parallel.
